Welcome back to The Call-Out Podcast! In Episode 3, Hosts David Artz and Colt Nyren (stepping in for a sick Dylan) kick off a brand new, essential 6-part series diving into the most frequently asked questions about mental health. This is Part 1, where we tackle the basics and explore the common internal questions many people, especially teenagers, face about their feelings. We cover how to tell the difference between a "bad day" and a real problem, the role of community, and the complicated topic of self-labeling. Remember: You are the expert of your own feelings. Trust your gut and always reach out for help if you need it. You are not alone. 💡 Episode Highlights & Key Questions Answered: Bad Day vs. Mental Health Problem: What's the real difference between feeling depressed and being depressed? We discuss why a feeling that lasts for weeks and impacts your sleep, school, or friendships is a sign of a real problem. Anxiety, OCD, and "Personal Quirks": Is everyone a little bit anxious or OCD? How do you know if what you're feeling is a real problem or just a personality trait? Being a "Dramatic Teen": How do you know if something is really wrong, or if you're just going through typical teenage ups and downs? We stress the importance of trusting your own feelings - no feeling is "wrong." The Point of a Label: Does giving your feelings a name like "anxiety" or "depression" help, or does it make it your whole identity? We discuss why self-labeling can sometimes make things worse and why getting help is the number one key. Is it a TikTok Trend? We discuss why it seems like everyone suddenly has a mental health issue and why it’s critical to focus on your own authentic self instead of trying to fit a mold or compare yourself to others. The Power of Community and Balance: Why finding groups and people you enjoy spending time with is crucial. We talk about balancing helping others with paving your own path in life. Therapy vs. Friends: Who is the best person to talk to? We share personal experiences and advise finding a support system, whether it’s a friend or a professional you truly connect with. 🛠️ Key Takeaways for Mental Wellness: Mental Health is Physical Health: Your brain is an organ. Balance your physical activities (like working out) with self-care to stimulate your brain and release mood-boosting chemicals like dopamine. Trust Your Gut: Even if others call you "dramatic," you are the expert of your own feelings. If it feels really wrong, seek help. Find Your Joy: Even on tough days, find small things that bring you happiness - a hobby, a pet, or time with friends. Don't Isolate: Isolation leads to "rebound mental health issues." Actively seek out communities and social interactions. 🔗 Resources & Support If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out.
